Our Vision
At Grassy Narrows First Nation, our vision is to create a future where every child grows up connected to their family, community, and land, surrounded by the love, support, and teachings of our ancestors. We envision a community where our children can thrive in their traditional culture, speak their language, and live with a strong sense of identity and belonging. Our commitment is to nurture the holistic well-being of our children, ensuring they are protected, valued, and empowered to become the leaders of tomorrow.
Our Mission
Our mission is to reclaim and exercise our inherent rights to govern the welfare of our children and families through our own laws, customs, and practices. We are dedicated to:
Cultural Continuity: Protecting and promoting our language, traditions, and cultural practices to ensure that our children grow up with a strong connection to their heritage.
Child-Centered Care: Providing care that prioritizes the physical, emotional, spiritual, and cultural well-being of every child in our community.
Community Empowerment: Engaging our community, especially our Elders and Knowledge Keepers, in the development and implementation of child welfare practices that reflect our values and way of life.
Healing and Support: Addressing the impacts of historical trauma and creating pathways for healing within our families and community, ensuring that parents and caregivers have the support they need to raise their children in a safe and nurturing environment.
Sovereignty and Self-Determination: Upholding our right to self-governance by implementing our own Child Care Law, designed to meet the unique needs of our community while respecting the fundamental rights of our children.
